Senegal took the lead after only four minutes of the match through Habib Diallo’s volley from Mane cross.
Ivory Coast took possession of the game and equalised in the 86 minutes via penalty spot after Mendy fouled Pepe.
The resultant penalty shootout ended 5-4 with the former champion and host making it to the quater-finals.
